The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and the Northern District Police have arrested a 29-year-old Nazareth resident, Muhammad Awwad, suspected of aiding terrorist activities.
According to a joint statement by the Shin Bet and the police, the investigation revealed that the suspect had established contact with the Hamas terrorist organization, attempting to join its ranks and obtain logistical resources to carry out terrorist activities.
Preliminary investigation results indicate that Muhammad Awwad was planning a terrorist attack against Israel's Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir. According to the information, the suspect also worked as an unarmed security guard at the central bus station in the city of Afula.
The Northern District Prosecutor's Office submitted a formal indictment to the Nof HaGalil-Nazareth Court today, seeking to press charges against M. Awwad.
In their joint statement, the Shin Bet and the Israel Police emphasized that a "zero tolerance" policy is applied to the involvement of citizens in terrorist activities that threaten the security of the state and society. The agencies declared that they will continue to use all available resources to ensure that individuals involved in such activities are held accountable.
Commenting on the incident, Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir stated that this was the ninth assassination plot by terrorist organizations that they have attempted to carry out against him.
Ben-Gvir thanked the security agencies, noting that as a result of their operations, both he and his family were protected from a potential attack.
The minister added that despite the terrorist threats, he will continue reforms in the prison system, work toward the adoption of a law providing for the death penalty for terrorists, and will not stop his activities aimed at demolishing illegal structures and expanding security measures.
Ben-Gvir: You cannot scare me and you cannot stop me. I will continue to work day and night for the security of the people of Israel.
