The Austrian government has appointed Etienne Berchtold as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan.
The Austrian Embassy in Baku announced the appointment, stating that the new ambassador will begin his diplomatic duties at the end of August 2026.
Prior to this appointment, Etienne Berchtold served as the Austrian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, a position he had held since August 2022.
Before his diplomatic service, Berchtold worked as a press secretary for foreign and European policy at the Austrian Federal Chancellery. In this role, he worked with former chancellors Karl Nehammer, Alexander Schallenberg, and Sebastian Kurz.
Etienne Berchtold, who holds a law degree, has served in various responsible positions within the Austrian foreign policy and diplomatic service system for many years. His diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan is expected to contribute to the development of political, economic, and humanitarian relations between the two countries.
