US President Donald Trump shared a map on social media depicting the Strait of Hormuz, labeling it 'new US territory.'
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi reacted strongly to Trump's post.
He stated that Trump's misconception regarding the Strait of Hormuz would soon be corrected, or Iran itself would 'correct' it.
The Iranian diplomat also noted that although Trump correctly used the name 'Persian Gulf' on the map, his claim that the Strait of Hormuz is US territory does not correspond to reality.
Trump had previously stated in a speech regarding Iran that he would declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory. In his latest post, he reflected this idea on a map.
