In brief
Mugham is performed in a large form, the dastgah: singer, tar and kamancha move through sections, each with its own mode and mood. There is no score — the tradition passes from master to pupil.
Azerbaijani mugham is recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. The International Mugham Centre stands on Baku's boulevard.
