Today, the grand opening ceremony of the large-scale exhibition «Azerbaijani Carpets – From Tradition to Contemporary Art» will take place at the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest.
The exhibition, jointly organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Hungary, the Budapest Museum of Ethnography, the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, and the global .ART domain registry, will be open to visitors until July 26.
The exposition brings together the centuries-old development of Azerbaijani carpet weaving art with modern art. It showcases rare historical carpets from the 17th-20th centuries, national costumes, jewelry samples, carpet sketches, monumental carpets, contemporary paintings, and digital installations. The synthesis of historical heritage and modern artistic approach offers visitors a different perspective on the richness of Azerbaijani textile traditions.
In addition to unique ornaments and art samples from Karabakh, Shirvan, Baku, and other historical carpet weaving schools, the exhibition also features works by People’s Artists Latif Karimov and Eldar Mikayilzade, contemporary creations by artist Chingiz Babayev, and works by multidisciplinary artist Madina.
The organizers believe that the exhibition will provide the Hungarian public and city guests with a comprehensive understanding of Azerbaijan’s rich carpet weaving heritage, national art traditions, and modern art.
