The messaging platform WhatsApp has announced a major update to its audio and video calling features. According to the developers, the new additions are designed to improve connection quality and provide both individual users and groups with more flexible management options.
One of the main changes concerns the web version of the service. Users can now make and receive audio and video calls directly through the browser in WhatsApp Web, without the need to download and install a dedicated desktop application for their computer.
New features for group communication
For user convenience, a seamless device switching feature has been added. It allows transferring an active group call from a mobile phone to a computer and vice versa without interrupting the conversation. Additionally, the messenger has introduced a "waiting room" feature for group call participants.
Improved connection quality
To make communication more comfortable, the platform has implemented the QuickHD tool, which automatically ensures HD video quality from the very first seconds of a call. An updated background noise cancellation system has also been introduced, designed to significantly improve audio quality for those in noisy environments.
