A tanker sailing in the Strait of Hormuz has issued a distress signal after being struck. Following the incident, the ship's crew abandoned the vessel and boarded a lifeboat.

This information was reported by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

According to the organization's statement, several reports were received regarding a distress call broadcast via VHF channel 16. The call stated that the tanker had been hit by an unknown projectile. It was noted that the incident occurred approximately 8 nautical miles east of Limah, Oman.

Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that a fire had broken out following explosions on two oil tankers moving along the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the IRGC, rescue teams evacuated the crews of both ships to a safe area. However, the statement did not provide further details regarding the names of the tankers or the cause of the incident.

It is not yet known whether the tanker reported by the UKMTO is one of the two oil tankers mentioned by the IRGC. Investigations into the circumstances and causes of the incidents are ongoing.
