Today, the Republic of Nauru officially opened its embassy in Jerusalem. This diplomatic mission became the ninth embassy located in the Israeli capital.

Jnews.az reports that Nauru's Vice President and Minister for Foreign Affairs Lionel Rouwen Aingimea arrived in Israel to attend the ceremony. According to him, the decision to open the embassy was made following a meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar in Fiji.

“Jerusalem has always held a special place in our hearts.”

The Vice President of Nauru noted that his country supports Israel in 71% of UN votes and expressed confidence that this figure will grow in the future.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar called Nauru one of the most devoted friends of the Jewish state and stressed that the opening of the embassy confirms Jerusalem's status as the capital.

Previously, embassies in Jerusalem were opened by the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Paraguay, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, and Somaliland. The Republic of Nauru officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in August 2019.
