The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) intends to move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Jnews.az reports that Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and DRC Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner held a meeting on September 3. During the meeting, the plan to relocate the DRC embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was discussed.

According to information released by the parties, the two countries will continue consultations regarding the relocation of the embassy and the opening of an Israeli embassy in Kinshasa. This decision was also reflected in a joint statement announced following a meeting between DRC President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on September 1.

If the relocation takes place, the DRC will become the 11th country to operate an embassy in Jerusalem. Currently, the two countries are continuing negotiations to determine specific mechanisms and a timeline for implementing the decision.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers the relocation of foreign embassies to Jerusalem one of its key foreign policy priorities.

It should be noted that the development of relations between the DRC and Israel has accelerated in recent months. Expanding ties between the two countries in fields such as diplomatic cooperation, agriculture, healthcare, technology, and other areas is being discussed.
